Karate Seminars with Shihan Keiji Tomiyama
Kofukan Karate Australia invites all karate practitioners to seminars with Shihan Keiji Tomiyama (9th Dan Tasshi Shito-ryu, 6th Dan Goju-ryu) in PERTH. Mr Tomiyama is President and Joint-Chief Instructor of Kofukan Shito-ryu Karate-do International. Read more about Mr Tomiyama here.

Saturday 13 July: All Grades sessions
**due to an unforseen flight delay, Shihan Tomiyama will no longer be teaching the seminars on Saturday 13 July ** The seminars will go ahead with Mr Brian Chambers (6th Dan) from Kalgoorlie and Mr Don McKay (4th Dan) from Perth)**
- 9:30am-12:00 noon – Secret Harbour Community Centre – Fighting Combinations
- Fighting combinations are a set of practical techniques developed for Kofukan Karate for kumite/sparring (like ohyo kumite).
- Practitioners of both traditional karate and sport kumite of all grades will benefit from this class.
- Recommended ages 8 plus. Intermittent high intensity.
- 1:30pm-4:00pm – Secret Harbour Community Centre – Bo kata Shushi-no-kon and bo applications
- Kofukan Karate teaches some kobudo (weapons) as part of its advanced syllabus. Shushi-no-kon is considered a foundational bo (staff) kata.
- This class will also teach handling of the bo and striking and blocking techniques.
- Recommended ages 8 plus.
- Participants must bring their own bo. Length up to 2m or maximum one hand-span taller than the student.
Sunday 14 July: Advanced sessions, brown and black belts (3rd kyu and above)
- 9:15am-11:45am – Casuarina Wellard Community Centre – Pinan Kumite
- Practical combinations using the principles from each of the five Pinan (or Heian) kata.
- No previous knowledge of Pinan/Heian kata required.
- 1:15pm-3:45pm – *venue change* Casuarina Wellard Community Centre – Naihanchin Shodan and Naihanchin Kumite
- A practice of the Kofukan (Shito-ryu) version of Naihanchin Shodan (Tekki Shodan) along with practical combinations from the kata.
Price:
Members $15-55, non-members $30-90 (depending on number of sessions).
Instructors:
