Kofukan Karate Australia

Inter-club Tournament October 2023

Competitors in junior emale kumite

Kofukan Karate Australia held an inter-club tournament on Sunday the 15th of October 2023 at the Kwinana Recquatic Centre.

Approximately 40 young competitors aged between five and 14 had a great day. Everyone got several turns each on the tatami to develop their tournament skills and gain confidence.

The inter-club tournament is a developing event. The tournament gives any student a chance to get on the tatami and give it a go. It also provides instructors and brown belts more experience in official roles like judging and refereeing.

The day kicked off with Sensei Don presenting Alfred Koenig with his Shodan certificate (having graded in June 2023) and presented Sensei Lindon with his Sandan certificate (having graded before Shihan Tomiyama in April 2023).

The tournament also included a fun activity. Sensei Don took students through some throws and board breaking. Sensei Iain introduced students to nunchaku.

Amanda and Meegan from our newly formed Fundraising Committee held a raffle and a jellybean guessing game.

Kofukan Karate Australia would like to thank parents and members for making making the event a success. A special thanks to all volunteer referees, judges, marshalls and table officials. Without your help the event would not have been possible.

We would like to thank the City of Kwinana for granting a fee waiver for the hire of the Kwinana Recquatic Centre stadium for the tournament.

All members are encouraged to check the Event Calendar for future Kofukan and West Australian Karate Federation tournaments.
