2024 Kofukan Shito-ryu Invitational Development Tournament

Competitors sitting listening to instruction at tournament

On 15 September 2024, we hosted our annual Kofukan tournament at the Kwinana Recquatic Centre.

This year, the event was open to other clubs by invitation, and we were very pleased to get 110 competitors across kata and kumite events! Joining our members from across Perth, Peel and Goldfields regions were competitors from:

  • Australian Shukokai Karate Association (Samurai Karate Belmont and Samurai Karate Carnarvon)
  • Australian Wado Ryu Karate-Do Academy Western Australia (Geraldton)
  • GKR Karate (Perth and Southern Perth regions)
  • Hills Wado Kai Karate Club

Our development tournament is a fun, informal and supportive environment for our members to gain confidence, overcome nerves and build competitive spirit. Many of our referees and judges are also developing in their roles.

The tournament held 14 kata events and 16 kumite events. During the lunchtime break we also put on some fun activities – board breaking and a high cliff jump.

Thanks to the other clubs who came to the tournament and made it a success.

A very special thanks to all the volunteers from Kofukan families and other clubs who helped with set up, pack away, table official roles, marshalling competitors and being judges and referees.

Thanks to the City of Kwinana for supporting this event through a venue hire waiver. This helped the event run at low cost for all the competitors and their families.
