Kofukan Karate Australia

From 17 To 23 July, senior instructors from across WA gathered in Perth for a week-long training program. While we were missing Shihan Keiji Tomiyama from the program this year, we were especially pleased to have Sensei Maria Oinas from Kofukan Sweden visit us in Australia.

Sensei Maria has over 40 years of martial arts experience. She has pursued advanced studies in kata, kumite, kobojutsu, self-defence systems, and internal martial arts.

Sensei Maria also visited the Kalgoorlie dojo before the training program in Perth.

The event also marked the first time that Kofukan Australia graded 2nd and 3rd Dan black belts without Shihan Tomiyama officiating. A panel of Sensei Brian (6th Dan) and Sensei Don (5th Dan) promoted three black belts:

  • Robert Sage to 3rd Dan
  • Curtis Koenig to 2nd Dan
  • Curt Moss to 2nd Dan

On 18 July, we held seminars for all ages and grades. From Monday 20th to Thursday 23rd, senior instructors all visited regular classes at the dojos. Photos in the gallery include classes at Baldivis on Monday, Kwinana on Tuesday, Harrisdale on Wednesday and Byford on Thursday.
