2025 Kofukan Australia tournament

Our 2025 Kofukan Shito-Ryu Invitational Development Tournament was a fantastic day of karate spirit, camaraderie and friendly competition, bringing together 50 competitors for an enjoyable and inspiring event.

Held on 21 September at the Kwinana Recquatic Centre in Western Australia, the tournament provided the perfect opportunity for students to test their skills on the tatami in a relaxed and supportive setting. The focus was on encouraging those new to competition and ensuring everyone had fun while gaining valuable experience.

In addition to participants from all Perth-based Kofukan dojos, we were delighted to welcome visiting competitors from:

• Australian Wado Ryu Karate-Do Academy Western Australia (Geraldton)
• Hills Wado Kai Karate Club

Across the day, we ran nine kumite events and eight kata events, along with team kata. The lunchtime break featured plenty of fun off the mats too — including board breaking, tug-of-war, a high cliff jump, dodgeball, and more!

Our development tournament provides a friendly, low-pressure environment where members can build confidence, overcome nerves and develop their competitive spirit. It also offers valuable experience for our referees and judges, many of whom are developing their officiating skills.

A heartfelt thank you to all the volunteers whose hard work made the event possible, and to the City of Kwinana for supporting us through a venue hire waiver, helping to keep costs low for competitors and their families.
