Inter-club Tournament June 2023
Kofukan Karate Australia held an inter-club tournament on Sunday the 4th of June 2023 at the Kwinana Recquatic Centre.
Approximately 50 young competitors aged between five and 17 had a great day. Everyone got several turns each on the tatami to develop their tournament skills and gain confidence.
The inter-club tournament is a developing event. The tournament gives any student a chance to get on the tatami and give it a go. It also provides instructors and brown belts more experience in official roles like judging and refereeing.
Seven dojos were represented at the tournament. This included six from Perth and Mandurah and several members travelling all the way from Kalgoorlie.
During the break, we had a visit from Bob Shanks, Senior Community Development Office from the Alcohol and Drug Foundation. Bob said he continued to be impressed with Kofukan Karate Australia following our 2022 Good Sports New Club of the Year win. Chairperson, Don McKay, and Secretary, Lindon McKenna, reminded the competitors that Good Sports is about being a health club and providing a supportive community. Kofukan members have access to a range of resouces in the Member Area in the areas of mental health, alcohol and other drugs.
All members are encouraged to check the Event Calendar for future Kofukan and West Australian Karate Federation tournaments.
Kofukan Karate Australia would like to thank parents and members for making making the event a success. A special thanks to all volunteer referees, judges, marshalls and table officials. Without your help the event would not have been possible.
August 2023 update: we would like to thank the City of Kwinana for granting a fee waiver for the hire of the Kwinana Recquatic Centre stadium for the tournament.
