Successful WAKF Regional Seminar in Kalgoorlie

Kofukan Karate Australia would like to thank the West Australian Karate Federation (WAKF) for holding their Regional Seminar in Kalgoorlie on Sunday 20 February 2022.
 
The Seminar was held at the Kalgoorlie Kofukan dojo hosted by Sensei Brian Chambers.
 
Six WAKF coaches attend from Perth:
  • Tom Pettit Coach / Board director
  • Brigit Wall Head Kata Coach
  • Mick Gunn Head Kumite Coach
  • Olivia Clifford – International Competitor
  • Justin Dowell Chair Referee / Board Director
  • Owen Blockley Coach
Twenty eight participants attended the weekend. This included:
  • Eighteen athletes and two coaches from two Kalgoorlie clubs. The clubs were Kalgoorlie Kofukan Karate and Kalkgoorlie Kickboxing; and
  • Three karate athletes, one coach (Sensei Don McKay), and one table official from Perth’s Karate for Life Kofukan Karate.
 
Karate athletes ranged from 9 years and up and, 7th kyu Yellow belt and up. Five athletes were female. Two athletes were black belts and are also assistant coaches. Eight participants were brown belts. Training on Table Official duties was conducted for four parent volunteers.
 
Kalgoorlie Athlete Rob Sage has placed in a number of State events, including 1st place 84kg kumite.

Kofukan Karate Australia would also like to thank the Goldfields Sports Development Network (GSDN) committee for the allocation of funding for the Seminar in Kalgoorlie. This support provides our local Karate athletes the opportunity for a talent pathway and the possibility of linking identified talented athletes with a regional athlete program and strategic plan.
